MEN OF THE HIGH PEAK' A History of the Men of the 1/6th Battalion The Sherwood Foresters 1914 - 1918 The original history was compiled by Captain W D Jamieson, with the help of several other sub-editors, some time after the Great War of 1914-18. The majority of the original letters and extracts of memories used in the compilation of this history are held in the Regimental Museum archives along with 2 of the original copies of the book of which only 25 copies were produced in the 1920's. First Contact - History of the 8th Bn Sherwood Foresters 1939-45This history details the movements and actions of the 8th Battalion which served in the ill-fated Norway expedition of 1940. It pulls no punches in explaining what happened to the Battalion which was landed without its equipment, ammunition and much of its food on a foreign shore in deep winter. That many of the men survived to fight another day is nothing short of a miracle. An A5 paper back book of 106 pages Price: GBP £10 + £2 P&P (UK only - overseas postage on request) Available from RHQ MERCIAN (Nottingham), Foresters House, Chetwynd Barracks, Chilwell, Nottingham NG9 5HA - Cheques payable to Crich Memorial Tower Fund

SOLDIER, POET, REBEL In this compelling biography, Hudson's surviving son, Miles skilfully interweaves his own narrative insight with his father's wartime journals and other unpublished material including detailed personal descriptions of the Somme and other actions. Charles Hudson was one of the most decorated British Soldiers of the First World War. He earned his medals in the thick of the fighting on the Western Front and, aged just 24, commanded a Battalion of The Sherwood Foresters in the Ypres Salient in 1917. He won his VC on the Asiago Plateau in Italy, 1918. Forced at the end of the war to revert to 2IC of a Company, against orders he went to North Russia to join the British Forces fighting the Bolsheviks at Archangel. In the Second World War he commanded a Brigade in France. This book is available from the publishers jfenn@npi-mediagroup.com |
