Private Mainwairing 2/6 Bn The Sherwood Foresters

Private Mainwairing joined the 2nd/6th Battalion Sherwood Foresters in November 1914 as a bugler. He told his Commander that the standard issue bugle was not good enough for a trained musician and obtained permission to take his own.

When his Battalion was fighting near Ypres he found a German Bugle and on his death, both were returned to his family. The German Bugle was donated by Mrs Shaw to the Museum in 2001
