EDUCATION

The Museum Education Service was developed in response to the Governments "Learning For Life Initiative" and requirements of the National Curriculum, providing resources to Primary and Secondary Schools in the Derby and Nottingham areas. All enquiries are dealt with by Clive Tougher, the Education Officer and former teacher. Our museum has a wide range of artefacts and memorabilia which provide valuable teaching resources for pupils of all ages.

The Education Service is used by an increasing number of local Schools (also featuring in the Summer School Programme organised by Nottingham University Faculy of Education for newly qualified teachers), and Community Groups.

Stories of the war heroes

Pupils at Crich Junior School heard stories of what it was like to have fought in World War One when the Reverend Clive Tougher made a visit. Rev Tougher, Education Officer of The Sherwood Foresters Museum, dressed in wartime military clothing and told the children of stories from local war heroes who were being honoured for Remembrance Day. He then led a two minute silence at 11am as he took the remembrance service. Headteacher Cheryl Julian said: "The children were really interested in what the Reverend said, as it brought to life all the work they had done on the subject. The way he told the stories was exciting for them and they all thoroughly enjoyed it."
