MERCIAN REGIMENT BOXING NIGHT-

CHETWYND BARRACKS

THURSDAY 5 MAY 2011

MERCIAN CHARITY BOXING NIGHT
AT CHETWYND BARRACKS IN CHILWELL
ON THURSDAY 5 MAY 2011

Our 3rd Battalion is currently deployed in Afghanistan from where our 1st Battalion has recently returned. Our 2nd Battalion is between its third and fourth tours. Our 4th Battalion has supported and will continue to support both these and other units' tours in Afghanistan.
The Mercian Regimental Benevolent Fund has never been needed more than it is today.

Whilst public funds and national charity funds are rightly focused on the needs of the serving soldier, regimental charity funds are devoted primarily to the needs of the soldier after he has left the Army.
He may have left the Army but he is still in the Regiment.
More of our wounded will leave the Army in the near future as well as in years to come and our Benevolent Fund needs to be able to plug the gaps that may appear between soldiers' needs and state provision.

The current resurgence in boxing as a competitive sport in the 1st and 2nd Battalions makes this an opportune time to bring together boxers from both battalions to form a Mercian team and to pit that team against local amateur boxers. The funds that we raise from this charity night will go primarily to the Mercian Benevolent Fund but as we are seeking to attract local spectators we will also make a donation to two local charities; Teenage Cancer and CLIC Sergeant.

The following ten boxers will compete on 5 May and are being matched against civilian boxers or equivalent weight and experience by local ABA officials. They are the ones making the greatest efforts on behalf of the Regiment and deserve our support.

Pte Dayton-Rogers - Lightweight
Cpl Roberts Light - Welterweight
LCpl Jones - Middleweight
Pte Lockett - Middleweight
Pte Willshire - Middleweight
Pte Roberts - Light Heavyweight
