The
village of Gheluvelt was hidden by a ridge, the crest of which was
covered by enemy guns and could be crossed only by a quick rush.
Though over a hundred fell to the storm of shelling which met their
advance, the rest dashed down the slope where they closed with the
Germans.
Surprised
by the impetuous speed of the attack, the enemy, though far superior
in numbers, gave way and the 2nd WORCESTER met up with the remnants
of the South wales Borderers.
