The Final Years: A History of the Sherwood Foresters 1957 - 1970This book is a must for any collector of the history of the Sherwood Foresters, for it accurately and reverently puts the Regiment, under its old and well known title Sherwood Foresters, to rest in a final blaze of glory. The period in question 1957 to 1970 saw the Sherwood Foresters engaged in two active service campaigns, the first, in 1958/59 against the communist terrorists in Malaya and the second, in the Peace Keeping role in Cyprus in 1963/64. This history is set down by one who served with the Regiment for the whole of the period in question and as a result, first hand information on the service of the Regiment during this time is here presented in a most interesting way. Not only are the basic actions, changes and movements of the Regiment presented in a chronological sequence, but they are interlaced with many anecdotes and personal memories supported by many previously unpublished photographs. First Contact - History of the 8th Bn Sherwood Foresters 1939-45This history details the movements and actions of the 8th Battalion which served in the ill-fated Norway expedition of 1940. It pulls no punches in explaining what happened to the Battalion which was landed without its equipment, ammunition and much of its food on a foreign shore in deep winter. SOLDIER, POET, REBEL In this compelling biography, Hudson's surviving son, Miles skilfully interweaves his own narrative insight with his father's wartime journals and other unpublished material including detailed personal descriptions of the Somme and other actions. Charles Hudson was one of the most decorated British Soldiers of the First World War. He earned his medals in the thick of the fighting on the Western Front and, aged just 24, commanded a Battalion of The Sherwood Foresters in the Ypres Salient in 1917. He won his VC on the Asiago Plateau in Italy, 1918. Forced at the end of the war to revert to 2IC of a Company, against orders he went to North Russia to join the British Forces fighting the Bolsheviks at Archangel. In the Second World War he commanded a Brigade in France. This book is available from the publishers [email protected] |
