Comfort Parcels

The personal effects of Private Thomas G Moore of the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters who was severely wounded in the attack at Campeleone Station just North of the town of Anzio on 31 January 1944 and later died of his wounds on 11 February 1944. He had been called up to serve in the 2nd Battalion The Sherwood Foresters at 35 years of age. Every month his wife sent a small comforts parcel to her hasband in the war zone and she was preparing to send another parcel when she received word of her husband's death, she was so shocked that the parcel was locked away and forgotten about. Many years later, on her death, her daughter found these items and we are indebted to her for donating them to the Museum.
