A unique and fascinating collection of materials which provide a wide range of teaching opportunities related to the National Curriculum especially in the area of historical enquiry, using the Regimental Archives of diaries, letters, photographs, uniforms and other museum artefacts to tell the stories of local men of the Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment), The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment (29th/45th Foot) and The Mercian Regiment covering events of national interest and their relation to the local community and help to bring history alive. |

We provide a range of resource boxes covering Key Stages 1 to 4 for use by Schools in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire on the following topics: All boxes contain Teacher Study notes. Signs-Symbols and Badges Contents include uniforms, hats, badges,cut-out figures, work sheets photographs and badges. Ideal for younger primary pupils (Key Stage 1) with opportunities for dressing up, role plays,story telling, games and art work. Teachers have also found this box especially helpful with special needs pupils. Florence Nightingale, the Crimean War and the 95th (Derbyshire) Regiment Closely related to 'Famous People in British History' (Key Stage 1) and 'Victorian Britain' (Key Stage 2). This popular topic includes reproduction costumes, contemporary photographs and records, badges, equipment and work sheets. Pupils discover Florence Nightingale's unique contribution to the modern nursing service, her family links with Derbyshire and the successors to Nightingale Nurses, Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps. Memorials - Remembering the Past This theme is relevant to Key Stages 1 - 3. The box contains commemorative objects, memorials of all kinds including the famous Crich Lighthouse War memorial in Derbyshire, items related to 'Poppy day', family and community memorabilia and work sheets. This topic offers a range of teaching opportunities and is ideal for topic work and local research. The Great War and the Western Front (WW1) There has never been a greater interest in the events and people of the 1914 -18 War. As an integral part of history at Key Stage 3, it provides material for a World study on an event which shaped the twentieth century. The Sherwood Foresters archive contain records of 32 Battalions of the Regiment, representing thousands of men from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. The teaching box contains medals, badges, equipment, souvenirs, letters, diaries and a wealth of other information which brings to life a key moment in history. Selected GCSE and A Level Courses also offer this subject. WW2 - A Family at War This subject appears in the National curriculum in Key Stage 2 History as 'A Study of Britain since 1930 and the Social Impact of World War 2' Aspects of this topic also appear in Key Stage 3 History and selected GCSE and A Level Courses. This collection is based on the experiences of local families and individuals making use of letters, diaries, memorabilia and artefacts from 1939-45. £10 per Box per week (Mon - Fri) |
